DOLPHINS

Our research is helping improve our knowledge of various dolphin species in Australian and South East Asian waters that can be used for their effective conservation and management. In Australia, research has included the behavioural ecology of bottlenose dolphins in Moreton Bay, particularly the influence of humans on social structure (link to Louise) and the major factors influencing habitat use and group spatial structure (link to Cheiko). Other research has focussed on distribution and abundance of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins (link to Josh and Guido) and Irrawaddy dolphins (link to Guido) in tropical Australia. The work on distribution and abundance of Irrawaddy dolphins also extends to Cambodia in order to assess the species conservation status in the Mekong River (link to Isabel).
